I have yet to get any USB device working properly on my new Thinkpad
T40, with windows XP and all the latest patches and updates provided by
windows update. I've tried some of the suggestions I've seen in this
group but to no avail.

Anyone, have a clue as to what is going on. Will this be fixed by SP2?

To be more specific, it seems the plug-and-play installer finds the
devices, installs the right driver, but they all show up with (error
code 39) in the device manager. I've had this same problem with a
flash-thumb-drive and a PTP compatible digital cammera.

I believe Error Code 39 is a corrupted driver.

These are the standard Windows XP drivers that shiped with my machine
not vendor specific ones. I guess, my only choice is to backup and
reinstall. In particular, I'm very surprized that the usb mass storage
device is corrupt.
