I have a Compaq laptop with a MS Basic USB Mouse w/
Infrared. I upgraded to WinXP Pro and it still worked
fine. After I ran installed the updates from Windows
Update it stoped working.

I have tried reinstalling the MS Intellimouse software and
it still doesn't work.

Is this a known problem? I saw some kbase docs that were
similar to this problem.. How do I fix this?

AFAIK, there's no "known" issue regarding updates and mouse problems.
However, I personally believe, based on information presented in this
newsgroup, that there is an update (or combination of updates) that is
breaking the mouse drivers. You're only choice at this point is to
uninstall mouse and video drivers, restart, and then re-install the
drivers again with restarts in between. The problems disappear for the
most part but arise occasionally for brief periods.
