Hi,

I am trying to install a 40 GB Maxtor 3000 LS External
drive using a 4 port 2.0n USB on a PCI card. My optical
mouse and my UPS work just fine on the card. When I
connect the hard drive, after a few minutes, I get an
error that says "The device cannot start (Code 10)". I
have been told to uninstall the drivers and update new
ones through Microsoft Update. So I have done that in
device manager. Before I can get to the windows update
screen, they begin to re-install through Plug n Play. Any
Ideas? Is it possible the hard drive is bad? Although I
hear it spin up.

I am having the same problem as described below, I have
worked through MS Knowledge base article 329632. It is
helpfull but in the end did not solve my problem. When I
look through my device driver list I can't find any USB
2.0 drivers as described in the article. I have tried
uninstalling/reinstalling Win XP serv Pack 1a with no
luck. If you get an answer please forward any solution
to me at (e-mail address removed)

Tom,

I am working with a Microsoft Technician on the problem.
If I get it working I will email you directly with the
solution.

Have you tried to unplug other USB device? Sometines an USB device needs
more power then provides when other USB devices are plugged in. Some devices
will not operate properly when not connected directly to the USB card. I
had similar problems, but rectified them by doing the above.
