i use windows xp service pack 1(my system is based on a giga-byte 8idx
motherboard and a intel pIV 1,7ghz cpu).
connecting to a usb port my 15gb western digital hdd using a portable
enclosure device, i firstly get an error informing me that an usb 2
hi-speed device was connected and that it will run at a lower speed
because of my non-hi-speed usb port. that's ok with me. the real
problem, howwever, is that the system cannot access my usb device("q
back-up" is the name and it is based on an uPD720130 chip). i get the
message that the system cannot start the device. checking my device
manager informs me that my "usb mass storage device" don't work
because of an error of code 10.
I tried to uninstall the "usb mass storage device" driver(after having
turned off my portable disk). turning on it again reinstalled the
driver but the problem stayed.
I tried to boot the system a couple of times while having my device
turned on but nothing changed. on the other hand, the first time i did
this, the bios just hanged and the booting process continued only
after i had my deviced turned off. The second time, my pc just hanged
just before showing the login page. for once again, turning off my
device solved this but well, i still had not my hdd.
I doubled checked that the jumper on the hard disk is set on "master",
as the manual suggests.
The installation cd included in the box didn't have any drivers for
xp(fair enough, as it supposed that windows xp have a wide list of
supported devices, well...)
I have no other usb devices connected to the system.
any ideas?
thanks
