I am having similiar issues to everything I have been reading but mine has a
different twist. When I plug in a MP3 playor or card reader I get a "Windows
cannot load the installer for volume". It does show up as a disk drive and I
also see the USB Mass storage device. Interestingly, two of the four slots
for the card reader show up under "My Computer". Nothing shows up for the
MP3 player. I have tried every trick I read in the forums. I have deleted
drivers, upgraded the BIOS, etc. Nothing works. Please help.

JM,

I don't know whether you've seen and tried this step, but some folks have
had good fortune in resolving problems such as you have by deleting the
INFCACHE.1 file. It's located at C:\Windows\inf (scroll down to the file).
It's OK to delete the file even when it has nothing to do with the problem.

Windows puts inf files in that cache when it has hardware to install but has
information about that hardware that it doesn't understand (simplified
explanation). Inf stands for information, which Windows needs to
know how to install the hardware properly. With that file removed, Windows
hopfully will find the correct inf file and install the hardware, we hope.
Post back
on whether that suggestion works.

JM,

I sometimes overlook suggesting that everyone should download and install
all the updates available at the Microsoft update site, if you haven't
already done so. Those often resolve problems you didn't even know you had.

Thank you for the response. I did delete that file already and no luck. I
forgot to mention before that I also have a message that says "The class
installer registry entry is invalid". How do I correct this?
