USB headset echoes when playing Battlefield 1942

Help, (please)

When using my analog 6.1 surround speakers all is fine
when running the game. All the latests EA BF42 patches
have been installed.

When I use my Plantronics DSP-500 USB headset, I hear
terrible repeated echos and makes playing the game
terrible using headset.
