USB Hard drive

Running up to date XP pro.

I am using an IDE-USB cable to plug a hard drive into the USB port.

Sometimes the system recognizes the drive. Most of the time it does not.

Other devices plugged into the port work fine (REV drive, IPOD, etc.)

What can I do to force the system to recognize this Plug and Play device.

Thanks

Have you tried a different USB port?

If so, the problem is probably with the ide to USB adaptor

i have similar problem, too, when trying to plug IDE-USB drive (laptop-size
hard drive) into my USB port. it works fine in other desktop.

I jumped to conclusion, that it's due to lack of power in my usb port, i
guess.

the drive has no external power, only gets from USB 500mA. it has 2 USB
connectors, though. But even if i plug both, still wouldn't work.

any other small USB devices works just fine.
