I have a portable USB 250GB HD. Recently, when I plug it in, it take a LONG
time (2 hours+) before Windows recognises it and allows me to use it. Once
connected it seems fine, all data seems to be there, and it responds as
quickly as ever - so it seems to be just a very long initial connection /
recognition time.
I've had it a couple of years, this is a new problem.
I have another USB HD drive which connects instantly every time.
The problem drive is 85% full, made by Maxtor.
I'm running XP Pro, SP-1.
Can't find anything in the databases that looks similar - anybody have
suggestions?? Is it a corrupted directory (if so, what can I do?)
thanks in anticipation,

Turn off autorun before connecting the drive. (Not sure how that is done
though.)
