USB gaming devices not detected

Every time I try to install a USB gaming device (game
controller, for example) I get the error that the device
was not installed because the data is invalid. It does not
recognize the device. I've tried a couple different ones
and it's the same error though they work on all other XP
OS machines. Any ideas? Seems the drivers won't install.

Actually I do install the software, but at the point where
it requires plugging the device in, it doesn't detect it
and aborts the install.

Game controllers are unique in that if they follow the standard HID
specifications they will all work without installing "drivers". In fact
unless the device is Force Feedback they all use the HID driver already in
the OS. Even most of hte newer Force Feedback devices will still allow you
to control something in a game without installing drivers, you just won't
have forces. This doesn't apply to the Microsoft USB Force Feedback devices.
They follow a standard called PID and will use the pid.dll file to get their
Force Feedback information. Almost every "driver" that is installed for a
device is just really configuration software that is allowing you to
configure the buttons, etc. and doens't really add a driver.

Kcirillo, can you post a "dxdiag" rport of your system for me to look at? I
will see if it has anything to idicate why that system isn't working
correctly.

For DXDIAG:
Click Start -> Run
Type "dxdiag" without the quotes nad hit Enter.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Utility click "Save All Information..."
Attach the output file here.

Thanks.
