You don't mention the Windows version(s) of the computers on which the USB
key does not work.

Windows XP comes with native drivers for such devices. Previous versions of
Windows do not. If the computers you're having trouble with are "pre" XP
check the manufacturers Web site for drivers. Pay close attention to the
instructions.

Not all USB 2 devices work in USB 1 or 1.1 . Only if the manufacturer
decides to also include USB 1/1.1 compatibility would the USB 2 device work.

What about the other way round?
I am thinking of getting a USB2 card and have these USB 1.1 devices:
Epson Perfection 610 scanner.
Logitech Freedom 2.4 joystick
Belkin USB Videobus 2
M318B webcam
Sandisc card reader.
(I assume the plugs/sockets are the same - - are they?)
Would I be better off getting firewire?
Decisions, decisions!
OK, I know, I really should get a new computer!! :-))

Are the computers on a Network with alot of drives?

The flash could be assigned a drive letter that another
device in that computer has that same letter, causing a
conflict. Use disk management and change the drive letter
on the USB flash to a letter somewhere near the end of
the alphabet.
