My 1GB shintaro flash drive is playing up. I can see what's on the drive,
even open the files but I cannot deleye or add files on this drive, nor can I
format it.
There is no physical swith on the drive to enable/disable write protection.
All logical attempts to restore writability have so far failed (eg turning on
file sharing)

Any ideas?

Hi Neil

No I did not install any additional security software with the flash drive,
but I will check security settings to see if this might be the cause of the
"write Protected message.

Thanking you in expectation....?

Hi again Neil

Your suggestion to check security software got me a little further.
After a virus scan I got the message"Pls remove the write protection from
the volume in drive\device\harddisk2\DR22"

However I have not been able to find any such file on my PC, or anywhere
else for that matter.

Advice?

Maybe you could download security software from

Thanks Eric P. Tried you suggestion but both utilities I found on the site
failed to format or recover the flash drive.
I am starting to think I've got a lemon.
Thanks for your efforts
