Hello everybody,

I have an unlabeled USB device that claims to be "USB flash disk" and I
want to make it usable on my Windows 98 SE box.

I have learned that I need this thing called "USB flash driver" and it
is only needed in Windows 98 SE.

Can anyone please help me find that driver?? Please, it's important.

Thanx in advance.

Don't feel bad about asking/telling me anything, I will always gladly
reply.

"Yes, Master."

Have you been told Internet will always be
threatened by worms viruses etc? We don't think so:

Can you open the device and see any markings to hint at the
manufacturer? If not, write down the markings on the chipset, larger
chips inside... that may help to find a driver that works, even if
it's actually for another near-identical device but not from same
manufacturer.

You could also provide a link to a picture of it, in case someone here
can ID it, or seek USB flash disks on the 'net till you find yours.

I have a USB flash drive.... not sure of the brand but it is supposedly
capable of USB 2.0, and somewhere arround here I have a floppy disk with
drivers for WIN 98 SE.

I can send them to you if you want.

Hello.

Sorry about the delay, my news server didn't show me your post.

Yes that sounds like something like what I would need.

Please send it if you can. Also, if possible, send the files in more
than one e-mail (my dailup connection makes it hard to download bigger
e-mails).

Thank you very much in advance.

Physicaly, the device is unopenable. I used USB viewer, but all I got
was that the manufaturer was "GENERIC".

I don't have a digital camera or anything that could provide a picture
of it.

It is gray in colour, has a rectangular metal ring on the plug side of
it otherwise it is made of plastic. On the top side is a black label
saying "Microsoft", on the bottom side is a metal hook (that lets you
wear it on a shirt pocket) and on the top side is a white switch that
has a "locked" picture on one side and an "unlocked" picture on the
other. On the back side (opposite to the plug side) is a small hole and
a pin accross it (which is likely so you can attach it to a small chain,
but I don't see how).

Also, the device does not appear to have any clear means of oppening,
and I don't want to try force given the point that it's owned by the
company I work for.

Hope this helps you help me. =)

Unfortunately the description didn't help (me).
Since the drive is owned by your employer, you ought to contact the IT
department/person, if there is one.

If your drive isn't new, has been around for a while, it's more likely
a USB 1 drive, not USB 2.

Here are three different drivers, the first for a Trek USB Drive, the
second for a Lexar drive, third for a Proton Stick:

http://69.36.189.159/usr_1034/tdwin98.zip (36KB)
http://69.36.189.159/usr_1034/lexar.exe (5MB)
http://www.zoltrix.com/Public2/USBDisk/Protonstick/Proton_Stick_1_0.zip
(667KB)
