Hello,
I have a Compaq Presario 1247 and I want to use a USB-Ethernet adaptor
(I have an ADMtek ADM8511 USB-Ethernet adaptor) for surfing the
internet.
I connected the adaptor to the laptop and it identified it immeidatly,
but it states that network cable is not conected.
I am using a Linksys router and I can see that the LED, representing
this port is off (i.e. the router does not recognize the computer as
well).
I moved the adaptor to another, new, computer and it works properly
(the router LED is on and the computer can surf the internet). I.e.
teh router port, the cable and the adaptor are o.k.
What can be the problem with the laptop?
(it uses a windows XP proffecional).
Regards,
Ofer

Have you tested the USB port on the Presario ? I use a USB mouse with a
LED in it, as a test device. If the LED lights up, I know I've got
power. And if I can move the cursor with the mouse, I know the mouse
is being recognized.
