USB Enclosure and DVD-ROM sound

Hi

I just put dvd-rom in external usb enclosure. I hooked up all the
cables correctly. However when I play dvd video disk in it, I get no
sound on headphones out and also no sound on enclosure's sound out
port.
Is there a way to get DVD's analog sound out of external dvd-rom ?

I am unaware of any DVD-ROM drive that has analog audio output. The
audio signal is transferred along with the video in digital format.

Except that his post is incorrect. Every DVD-ROM drive that I have ever
seen has analog and digital audio outputs, which, however as far as I know
only work with CDs, not DVDs.

If the drives are in external enclosures then whoever put the drive in the
enclosure may not have provided the outputs on the outside but they are
still there.

For CD-Audio: You need to hook up the cables correctly. There are
different pinouts for these cables. The connector is usually to
the far left and has 3 or 4 pins. Which pins are ground and which are
L/R is usually marked on the connector or the case.
For the cable, the usual encoding is red/white for R/L (or L/R?) and
black for ground.

For any other format: No direct conversion in the DVD-drive.
Software only.
