Hello there,

I am helping a friend install his USB printer and I have ran into a few
problems. I had to enable the USB ports in the bios so I done that and when
I started up Windows98 it asks me for the drivers for it, however I cannot
seem to find them on the Windows98 cd-rom. Is it possible that I can
download these drivers or could someone tell me exactly were they are on the
cd-rom?

Help appreciated.

Printer drivers are normally on a CD supplied with the printer. It's unlikely
you would find the driver set on the win98 cd although it may ask you for
this later in the installation.

You won't find the driver files on the win98 cd, best to search the net for
the exact file it is looking for on install. There should have been a cd
that came with your printer, I got the same usb installer when I got my
mouse, my printer, and my 3 mp3 players... come on over and I will give you
one!!! email me back if you have no luck and I can send you an image?

Maybe I should have been clearer in my first post. When I enabled the USB
ports and started up the pc, it is asking me for the "PCI Universal Serial
Bus" driver.

Is this Win98 version 1 (not SE)?

Ok I see what you mean now. The thing is, the printer only came with 2 cd's,
1 in has the printer drivers and the other 1 is the manual. Maybe the USB
drivers are also on the printer drivers cd.

No it's ok, I will see if my friends have it or I will try and download it
somehow.

alright, perhaps you should try going to the RCA website, they have a lot of
mp3 players that need it so they might have them...

The USB driver for the motherboard USB ports will be either on the
Windows installation CD (or a "cabs" or "options" folder on the hard
drive for some OEM installs) OR one of the motherboard chipset
drivers, which one depends on the particular motherboard/chipset.
When it asks for the driver try pointing it to the /win98 folder on
the windows CD.

What motherboard are you using?

the best thing is to go to the motherboard manufactures website and have
a look for the drivers. Saying that your friend should have had the
drivers with the computer/motherboard.

The printer should come with a cd with drivers on it. Depending on what OS
you're running. the system should find the printer if its on and try to set
it up from the HAl. If it can't find a suitable driver it will ask you for
the Printer manufacturer's CD to be loaded. It may take a couple of tries.
If the first one doesn't work you will have to make sure all traces of the
Printer are removed from the system before retrying to load the drivers and
other software.
