USB drive write cache disabled - no admin share E$

I want to have write cache disabled on a USB drive, and access it via the
admin share such as E$. Testing on XP Pro indicates that the share is not
available when write cache is disabled, but E$ is available when the write
cache is enabled.

Is it always like this? If so, is there a way to make sure the cache is
always flushed so the drive can be removed quickly?

No. Since data can be produced faster than the drive writes, the
only safe thing is a manual flush (i.e. remove safely under windows).

Thanks. for the first question though, can you ensure a share is always
there every time it's plugged in, if write caching is disabled?

No idea, sorry.
