Help!

Vista ultimate does not give me access to the USB drive even
though Vista loads the driver for the USB-IDE device. My
XP Pro laptop does not have problem with this same device.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

No, it is not! The drive contains data from my Win2K machine which
was replaced by a brand new home built Vista Ultimate machine. I want
to bring in my data from that drive to the vista but it won't give me a
drive
letter. I may have to just connect it to my XP laptop and copy the files
through the network but that is very slow compared to the direct USB
connection to Vista. I only have 100megabit network.

I suggest start fresh
backup the data on the usb
plug in the vista pc, and format as FAT
Test on all computers before restoring the data

Can you see it in Disk Management? If so KB297694 may be relevent.
