USB drive not showing

OK I must be stupid

I have a WD 80gig IDE drive in an external case

It shows up in control panel under hard dives but computer does not give
drive letter and under disk management does not show up

running XP SP2 Western Digital support does not give help on USB boxes

any ideas

Try deleting the device in Device Management and letting Windows
re-detect the drive.
