USB drive not detected

I have a(formerly) working USB Flash drive that is now not detected on
a single machine., In fact this machine has stopped detecting all USB
flash drives but the ports work normally for printing etc. No new
software was installed and the flash drives work on all other
machines. I have even tried it with antivirus/antispyware shut off to
no avail.

Strange. Any suggestions

I never came across a case where a stopped Removable Storage
service caused a 'drive not detected' problem.
Even Microsoft states that this service is required for special
tasks only.
