USB Drive doesn't show up in My Computer

When i plug my USB thumbdrive in, it comes up and says your device is
installed and ready to use and the safely remove hardware icon comes
up too. But I look in Control Panel and it isn't there. I have found
posts with similar problems and tried a few things they recommended
but none have worked. I have assigned a drive letter in disk
management, formatting it, using sys /scannow and a few others. Any
help would be much appreciated.
