I have a usb hard drive that was working fine until a power outage. My
battery backup kicked in fine for just about everything except that a notice
came up stating that I should use "Stopping a USB device" warning. When
everything came back to normal that particular hard drive came up as
non-existent. So naturally I thought the cable came unplugged or the power
cord came unplugged. So I unplugged them both and plugged them back in. I
got the new hardware found prompt and the ding you get when you plug in a usb
device. So I gave it several seconds to show up in explorer but it never
did. I went to the Administrative section, computer management console and
the hard drive shows up but XP says I need to format the drive to be able to
use it. This drive has almost all of my pics on it and I backed it up in
July but haven't since. It was formatted fat32. Is there any software or
anything that I can use to recover the pics from it. I unplugged the drive
and powered down the drive as to be sure not to do anymore damage to it.
If there isn't anything I can use, is there a relatively inexpensive data
recovery company that can recover the data that someone would recommend using.
thank you for any help or response
