Hi,

A newbie to this newsgroup so apologies if I'm going over old ground!

I installed a new hard drive to my other PC and was in the process of
formating it when I inserted a cable for my printer into one of the 2x2 USB
ports. XP then hung, I rebooted and USBs no longer work. Device manager
recognizes both of my USB connections, I have uninstalled and they have been
re-installed by XP but still nothing connected works.

Now it would have been a good idea to system restore, but panicking I
re-installed windows from my recovery disc and now restore won't work at
all! I have put another hard disc in, formatted and installed XP from
scratch but still the USBs won't work? Can anyone help? I'm using my old
P233 where my ISDN USB works and it is driving me up the wall!

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Are you sure the problem lies with the USB ports and not your printer
software/driver installation? Have you tried another device in the USB
ports, a mouse for example to determine if the problem lies with the ports?
If not I suggest you do so. Sometimes installing software for USB printers
can be a little troublesome.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried a memory stick that has not been used on the pc before but no
joy. Nothing happened!

I've installed windows 98 and XP pro but still the USBs don't work but they
are always recognised in device manager?

The printer software was already installed as was my ISDN modem. I have
re-installed my modem software several times but still no joy.

If you have any more thoughts please let me know.

Andrew
