I am running WinXP SP2 and have to use USB devices but the software I am
using (Progress 9) maps to COM ports or LPT ports. I have searched the
internet to find something that will allow me to creat a virtual port mapped
to a usb device. Can anyone help?

You did not give enough details on what USB devices you need to
access? USB devices are numerious.

You mentioned LPT and COM ports. Do you need to access a printer?
You can try:

http://home.swipnet.se/~w-62144/prfile/descr.htm

provide Progress 9 can "write" to a print file. Then, PrintFile 32
would then send this print file out to any Windows available printer.

Sorry. My devices are a Pole Display for point of sale, a thermal receipt
printer, and a Handheld barcode scanner. The printer needs to attach to an
LPT port and the others need a COM port.

Thanks

Get a usb to serial converter for the COM ports. After loading the driver, the USB
port looks just like a COM port. Sorry, can't help with the LPT port, except if you
have open slots, you can buy an LPT card.
