I can no longer install any usb devices on my pc. Every
device i try to install the instructions say just plug in
and windows xp will recognise the device and install
automatically. It doesn't work. Most devices comes with
drivers but says xp doesn't need them and even they don't
help. Don't know what to do next because i cannot
install any new devices.

Open device manager and see what is reported about the USB
hubs. You might need to remove the USB devices currently
installed (in device manager) and reinstall.

Yes, that's what I had to do to get my USB mouse working again. I
uninstalled all USB devices, rescanned for hardware changes, and voila -- my
mouse came back. Do you realize how painful it is to navigate Windows with
a just keyboard?

Is this to say they DID work at some point? The key is SP1 must be installed
in XP for USB 2.0 support AND you must have a PCI card that suppors 2.0.. I
bought a cheapo usb card and i kept getting error messages saying a high
speed usb device was connected to a low speed card etc.. I bought a more
expensive Belkin USB2.0 card with 5 ports and the whole thing began to work
and flawlessly.. It wa my hardware usb card that was the culprit...
Look in Device Manager to see if an 'enhanced USB controller' is listed;
that must also be in place.. "enhanced" is the other key word. Good luck, it
is easy if you dothis..
