Hello friends!
I am having problems with a USB device that one family member gave as a
gift. it makes the functions of telefhone to make pre´payed calls. But it use
only the Administrator account and install it software in the administrator
Profile. this is for me a Potential and several risk becuase I only use
Administrator account in windows XP to perform administrative tasks, I have a
"Normal User" account and it's the one I always use, and sometimes I use the
"run as" when needed. another situation is that always appears an icon
saying" retire this device with Security" or something like that. the
manufacturer say that it only works wwith an administrator account. What can
I do to install it as administrator and then use it with the normal/limited
account?
Here is the link to the product web page: www.magicjack.com.
note: my english isn´t very fluent so excuse me for any mistakes.
Thank you for your time and help!!
Tirso.

Many software require admin right to install, especially for those
which need
to access your system devices.
What can
I do to install it as administrator and then use it with the normal/limited
account?

You can try it out !!!

I am not sure what your problems are from your posting.

Did it not working on an non-Admin account (once the software has been
installed via an Admin account) ? If so, what is/are the error(s) ?

Thanks harry!
Yes, that is the point! I can not use the program/phone device after
installing it correctly as an administrator, because the files of this USB
device are installed in" Document and settings/administrator". Therefore the
family User account can not have access to these files and the phone does Not
work. mr. "David", I'm sorry if this is ridiculously for you: I'm very short
in technicals knowledge (that's why I am posting this here). I tried to post
in Spanish under my group's language but I got no answer.
I have installed all kind of devices and programs as an administator and
they work perfect in all accounts. This USB device just work under the
administrator's environment account and use permanent internet connection to
operate normally: A Clear open Door To any malicious damage to my system.
I hope this aclaration might help you,
Thanks again!

The majority of Windows softeware would be installed on c:\Program
Files\.
The system files (dll's) would be installed to c:\Windows\system32\.
The shortcut maybe installed to %UserProfiles% which is
C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\.

But anyway, you may try this.

1. login as administrator, and grant [family_User] Admin right.
2. logi as [family_User] and install the program.
The program should now be "installed" to
C:\Documents and Settings\[familiy_User]\.
3. login as Administrator and revoke admin right to [familiy_user].
4. login as [family_user] as see if the program work.

MagicJack takes over your system. You should be careful on this.
This is a sign of spyware / malware / hijackware.

Great! I'm glad that now you (harris and smlunatick) have understook better
my problem with this "device". Harris, I followed your instructions about
granting the "User account": the magicjack's software did install well, But
after putting back the "user account" to its normal Security level: MAGICJACK
didn´t work again! Now I suspect that our friend "Smlunatik" is Right on his
final comment. there shouldn´t be any program or device forcing a windows
user to put in high risk his system using the administrative account in a
permanent way just to run their "software".
Should I send them back their very creative and "PC killer" Phone device?
Microsoft's team should be aware about these "troyan horses"!

I am not so sure if this program has spywares or troyan horses.
Here are my advices as general practise.

1) virus protection
All PC's should be installed with Anti-Virus programs.
They will catch virus / troyan horses the second they install
themself
onto the OS.

2) spyware
You may try to run spyware detection program periodically to catch
them and get rid of them.

3) installing something you don't trust.
3a) Take precautions. Every PC user should backup their OS
periodically.
In case some new hardware installation or virus screw your OS
up,
you can restore back with easy.
3b) Alternatively, instasll those un-trusted software on a Virtual
OS.
Well, I have WinXP installed on VMware and snapshot taken.
If I want to try out some risky programs (like keygen's), I try
them
on my virtual XP on VMWare. Once tried, restall the VMWare copy
from the snapshot.

I you do not trust the software, return back if the Return Policy
allows.

Just my 2 cents.

Magicjacks software is not a trojan or malware in the true sense, but it is
quite unstable and unreliable.
