Hi,

I plugged a USB card reader to the computer, on the computer
motherboard bios, it detect the USB device as a USB mass storage. when
the computer boot up to windows 2000 with service pack 4, win2000 found
the usb device, and try to install a driver for this device.
but an error occurred during the installation of the device: The
installation failed becasue a function driver was not specified for
this device instance.

I tried to plug the same USB card reader to another computer, it's
working fine, and it's using microsoft
"c:\winnt\system32\drivers\usbstor.sys" as a driver.

Any idea and how can I fix the problem?

Thank you,

Jywu

Howdy,

Few in the world know less about this than I, but...

Would this work?:

Copy usbstor.sys to the system on which you have the
problem. Then, insert the device, and install it manually
from Device Manager. Tell DM that you have the driver, and
point to usbstor.sys.

All the best,

Thank you for your input.

I tried to copy usbstor.sys from another working system and replace the
file in my compuer, but it still doesn't work.
