USB Crashes

I have a Dell Optiplex 280 and when ever I attach a thumb drive it
works great until I remove the drive and try to attach it again. Then
my system crashes??? I have updated my BIOS and tried to get dells
help but they are useless.
 
If there is any vendor-provided driver for the drive or USB host, uninstall
it and use stock Windows driver.

Have you deactivated/umounted it before removal?
