Hi
I am unsure of what to make of the error message that I am getting when
I plug my iPod into my home-built Shuttle.
The message says something along the lines of "This device can perform
faster if you plug it into a USB 2 port".
I actually thought my machine had USB 2. The error is also talking about
a USB controller - I am not familiar with this.
Please can you help out - do I need new drivers or another piece of
hardware?
The spec of my machine is as follows:

Shuttle PC:
Motherboard: FB61
CPU: Intel 2.4 Ghz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
RAM: 1GB (2x512)

Hope somebody can help!
Johanna

What OS? If XP, you need SP2 or a USB2 driver for your motherboard. Did
you install the drivers on the CD which came with your motherboard?

If you're running a version of Windows older than 2000 or XP, some mobo
chipsets, such as certain ones from SiS and nVidia (nForce), don't have
USB 2.0 driver software available, except maybe if you pay Orange Micro
for it. OTOH Dealsonic.com currently has a 5-port NEC-based USB 2.0
controller for $10, delivered, if you have a PCI slot to spare in that
Shuttle micro PC.

I have a Shuttle SB62 that uses the FB65 motherboard. I thought all of the
usb ports were usb2. Not so! Bus 5 is usb2, the other four are usb 1.1.
I learned that by running lsusb -v under linux.

Your FB61 may have something similar.

Try plugging your ipod into other usb ports on your Shuttle. It'll tell you
when it's happy.

The USB2 driver needs to be installed. It is there, you just
haven't done the magic. Go to MyComputer icon. Rclick and
select Properties. Select Hardware. Scroll down to USB
thingy, and open it. Select update driver, and it will do it.
