Dear all,

I have a new Dell Optiplex machine and it comes with USB keyboard and mouse.
Now I have an older generation barcode reader that uses keyboard wedge. Can
I just go out and buy a PS2 to USB Y cable? Does anyone have the same
experience and can confirm that this combination works. Thanks.

Regards,
Kueh.

Yes, I have such cable (nameless) and it works with a PS kbd.
Not sure it will work with other devices.

It works with USB mice but as far as I remember, I did not get this
working with a keyboard when I tried once.

Hi,

I did some more searching and found that there are two different types of
USB converters. The first one is the cheap one to one converter which
basically is a passive device (no electronic component in the device). In
this case your device that hooks up to the USB converter must be able to
speak USB protocol else it would not work. The other type is more
expensive and active device, this is allow mouse or keyboard emulation so
that any old PS/2 mouse or keboard can hook up to it without knowing that
the device actually communication with the USB port.

Regards,
Kueh.
