USB and Firewire problems

Hello.

Can anyone throw any light? I have built an Athlon 64 using a Gigabyte
GA_K8NS Pro motherboard (nForce3 20 chipset), 1Mb DDR 400 memory and Radeon
9200 graphics. Unfortunately both the USB and Firewire "lose" peripherals
(most alarmingly a LaCie Big Disk), and a USB KVM switch installs sometimes
Keyboard and mouse, sometimes keyboard only and sometimes neither.
Strangely an Apple USB keyboard and a Logitech USB cordless mouse can
sometimes "remind" the system that the KVM setup exists, and for a while
they will install, only to be unceremoniuosly dumped again.

I've now put a Belkin USB2 PCI card and a generic 1394 PCI card into the
machine, and neither seem to have any problems. The obvious culprit is the
nForce chipset in the Gigabyte board, but can anyone suggest a possible
fix?

Thanks

Adrian Matthews

Did you update to the latest motherboard BIOS and did you use the latest
chipset Forceware drivers?
It's also possible the USB headers don't have enough power. They are very
low powered compared to a separate PCI card or powered USB hub.

Could be your Lacie drives. I have constant problems losing mine, and
I know of others with the same issues.
