A friend has an older laptop, a Dell Latitude C610, maybe 5 or 6 years old.
Recently he bought a Verizon USB Air Card to get wireless access but there
is only one USB port on the laptop. He bought a USB hub so he could also
use a newer USB printer and a flash dive but when he put the Air Card in the
hub it started looking for drivers and wouldn't use the ones on the install
CD that came with it. I tried several hubs, splitters, a port replicator,
etc and the only way the Air Card works is directly into the laptop, or with
the extender cable that came with it. Verizon says they don't support 3rd
part equipment so wouldn't help.

Is there another way to do this? Right now he can't print internet pages
because he has to pull the Air Card to insert the printer USB cable.

There are some devices that will not work on a hub, your aircard is
apparently one of them. Perhaps get a PCMCIA USB card to add more USB ports
for the printer.

Unfortunately he signed a two year contract for that card - I wonder if they
would let him change to a PCMCIA card...? If only there was a registry hack
or something...

Sorry - didn't notice that - I will look for one of these. Sounds like a
great suggestion.
