USB 2 problem

I recently had trouble with USB external drives - suddenly becoming 'unknown
devices'. I have now narrowed the problem and wonder if anyone can help me
solve it. In Devices, when I disable 'SiS PCI to USB Enhanced Host
Controller', the drives are recognised again - but only running at USB 1.1
speeds. Some USB 2 only devices just do not work. Enabling the 'SiS.... etc'
immediately makes these devices become 'unknown' and will not show up in
Windows Explorer or anywhere alse.
I have tried the Microsoft hotfix for recognising USB 2 devices but this has
had no effect. Can someone please shed some light in the darkness ?
Thanks

Paul, you are an absolute star !
I have tried everything short of reinstalling windows and the most I got was
making some USB devices work but not those that need USB 2 - a TV tuner in
particular. Tried your fix and it worked in seconds ! The annoying thing is
that I have no idea how you did it or what the problem was ! :-) Thank you so
much. I shall keep the fix if OK in case it happens again. Fantastic !

apologies for being a pain - particularly as you are the only one whole
solved my problem, but.... everything worked OK then, whilst copying files to
an external USB drive there was a problem with read/write delay (??? not
exact quote). the drive showed up but not the contents. On restart - problem
back again - by disabling enhanced host controller I can get the drives in
USB 1.1 but not 2.0. Tried your fix, but this time no joy. Maybe I have did
something before trying your fix the first time. Any ideas how Im cocking
this up ?
Thanks
Rick
