Hello

Trying to clarify something. I have a computer with USB 1.1 ports and I
want to upgrade to USB 2.0. Installing the ports is easy enough but are
there any "tricks" with the softeware side of things? I run Windows XP
Pro (all security updates installed, SP1).

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks

USB 2.0 has faster transfer speed; the speed is due to the chips found on
the USB 2.0 pci card. Get a 4 or 5 port card; plug it in, plug in your USB
devices and you are on your way. (I'm assuming you will be turning the AC
power off while you install the USB 2.0 pci card).

Why not install SP2 at the same time ??

MD

I temporarily (6 more weeks) only have a dial up connection. Concerned
that if I update to SP2 - I have it on CD - that I might have to
reinstall all the MS security updates ?

Nope, should be a plug and play upgrade.

Hi

Pardon my limited knowledge - is a plug & play upgrade different to
what Don's Schmidt outlined in his post ?

Thanks, Echy

Hi Echy,

My understanding is you *would* have to re-install the updates--but bear in
mind, a lot of those updates would be part of SP2. I do believe on a "bare"
SP2 box, there are still 40-something updates you may wish to install. I'm
on dial-up, and I just set aside a while, for a few nights in a row, to d/l
updates, and it really didn't hurt that much.

Good luck,

Thanks for the comments on SP2. I will "bite the bullet" & update.
