my Dell Latitude has XP Service Package 1 but I still can
not have USB2.0 supported (when I connect to USB2.0 CD
burner it says there is no Hi-speed Host Controller found
in my computer). I went to MSFT and Intel website but
only found USB drivers for 2000.

any body has a clue why? and how do I fix it?
thanks a lot

Does your Laptop have USB 2.0 hardware? If your onboard USB is not 2.0, the only way to get it is to buy a USB 2.0 PC Card. Service
pack 1 does not make USB 1.1 into USB 2.0

Check the Dell website by your computer product key,the
specs for every Dell are on-line.

Since you have XPSP1 installed, the Hi-Speed USB (formerly known as USB
2) drivers are available. You can test your USB 2 capability two ways:
First, remove one of the Standard USB Host Controllers from device
manager. Reboot. If the system supports USB 2 you will have an
Enhanced USB Host Controller for that port. Otherwise, it will be the
same old slow speed Standard USB Host Controller.

Secondly, you can also do a driver update from device manager itself,
select from the list by disabling the Show Compatible devices check box,
and Selecting the Enhanced USB Host Controller driver. You will find
out quickly if the driver is compatible via a failure dialog. Others
have reported that the new drivers cannot be installed this way, but
YMMV.

If your computer is older than first quarter of 2003, there is little
chance that your computer has USB2 capability.

Q

How to fix it? You will need to purchase a pc card (pcmia) to upgrade from
USB1.1 to USB2. I use a Belkin USB2 pc card with a Toshiba Satellite and it
works fine for me. If you do decide to purchase a card, I suggest you make
sure that the card has an external power supply as many USB devices require
more power than is available from the card or port.

Is your usb on your system 2.0 in the hardware. Software alone will not
make a port 2.0 if it is not
