Installed a NEC 702010 (sp?) chipset USB 2.0 PCI card into an IBM
Netvista 2 Ghz desktop w existing USB 1 on mb, the PCI card installed
fine in XP SP2, but only reports as USB 1.1, recognizes a USB 2.0
device as high speed but says 'high speed device installed in low speed
port'

Looked on NEC website for drivers but none, says already builtin to XP
SP1+,

any ideas anyone?

TIA

Using the good USB 2.0 cable and hubs? Tried a different port? If
those still don't work you might have a problem with the card, it is
supposed to work in 2.0 by default unless you have 1.x cable, hub, or
device.

How does one test the speed of a cable to know if it is working at full
speed?

Thanks

By substituting with a known good USB2 cable.

But it wont be that, you get different symptoms if the cable isnt good for USB2.

No such thing as a USB 2 cable. If the cable is bad, Event Viewer should show errors.

The place to start is Device Manager. You always should see Enhance Host Controller.

There are however cables that work fine at 1.1 and not at 2 speeds.

But not necessarily if the cable isnt actually bad, just doesnt work at 2
speeds.

Different symptoms to what he is saying he sees
tho, normally the system just wont see the drive.
