usb 2.0 not working

i have an ASUS P5LD2 with usb 2.0 ports. i have a clean install of
windows xp sp2 and all its drivers, etc. windows is updated. bios is
updated. everything was great with the new install except i realized
that my usb ports weren't working at their high speeds. and when i
plugged in something like an external HD or an ipod is said that i
didn't have any high speed ports. the transfer speeds are slow! i'm
not sure what happened, but i can't figure out what to do.

When you go into Device Manager and look at anything under USB, does
the word 'Enhanced' appear an any of the descriptions?

If not, you haven't loaded the USB 2.0 chipset drivers yet.

On many Asus boards with USB 2.0 it is disabled by default in the
bios.....You might check that first.

wow... it was bios. i can't beleive that it sets usb 2.0 off as the
default when i updated it.

Yep.......I don't know why either.... I have ran across that so many times
with Asus bios' that I was pretty sure you would fix it there..... Glad you
got it going....

Hi,
I have the same problem.
my BIOS setting is set for Hi-speed and I have the Enhanced USB 2.0 in
the device Manager.
But I still get the message to connect the device to Hi-Speed USB.
I updated the BIOS to the lates one, and tried connecting the device
(in my case it is portable HD) to all the 8 USBs but all the same.

Are you sure there is not another setting in bios other than high speed such
as USB 2.0? After that you do need to install the drivers off the CD or from
the MB manufacturers site (XP SP1/SP2 has them already).
