S
Seven Steps
I have a Maxtor External Hard Disk, 200gb, model 5000DV. It runs on
Firewire as well as USB 2.0.
I purchased it to transfer files from an old PC to a new PC that I just
purchased. both computers are running Windows XP Home. One is an
Athlon 1800+ and the newer one is a Pentium 3.06. Both have more
than adequate RAM.
I've noticed that writing to the drive via Firewire or USB 2.0 is fast and
seems to write at the transfer rate is along the lines of the USB 2.0 and
Firewire specification.
However, I've noticed that READING from the drive -- transferring large
amounts of data or even just 40mb of data -- appears to be very slow.
It feels like it's USB 1 speed!
I installed the drivers from Maxtor.com. However, I've noticed that the
drivers say that they were written in 2001. So maybe the Maxtor
drivers didn't "take" and were not installed correctly?
Has anyone else had similar issues?
me.
