USB 2.0 Hard Drive Problem

I recently built a new AMD system with asus a7v8x-x mobo
with 6 onboard usb 2.0 ports on win xp sp1. Everything
(including other usb devices) installed fine except for
my iomega external hard drive. As far as i know my
drivers are the most uptodate by the asus and via
website. When i plug the drive into any of the onboard
ports it will often continually install and uninstall
(with the instal/uninstall sound beeping coninuously in
the background). Sometimes it will remain installed and
show up in the device manager under disk drives, etc. but
will not show up in my computer or logical disk manager
(so that i can assign it a drive letter). The funny
thing is that it will install and mount just fine if i
plug my old usb 1.1 hub into the one of the onboard usb
2.0 ports and then plug the usb 2.0 drive into the 1.1
hub. That's great and all but i wouldn't have bought the
drive if it was running at 1.1 speed . I would like it to
run at 2.0 speeds or i see little point in having the
drive. I have been on chat with iomega tech support
numerous times but they blame it on motherboard/chipset
drivers (which as of today were all uptodate on my
system). Any help would be appreciated!

Well, all I can say is that ever since upgrading to WinXP
Pro SP1, I've had nothing but USB problems...when I first
upgraded, my USB mouse (Intellimouse Explorer) would lock
up (This is with USB 2.0 for 6 ports on mobo). Now, I'll
be surfing the net, playing a game, or just clicking on
items, and the hardware uninstall/install sound for plug
and play devices goes off randomly...sometimes locking the
machine, sometimes just causing the mouse to pause. It
doesn't matter what I do (all drivers/bios have been
updated) it just continues to happen. Seems as if their
might be an IRQ interrupt conflict, but it doesn't show
anywhere. I would assume it's XP causing it as this mobo,
previous OS's or the mouse have never had any issues.
Can't seem to get an anwer from Microsoft.

Sounds like others are having the same problems with usb
2.0. I wish we could get some answers! I'm sick of the
old "get the updated drivers" answer.
