USB 2.0/Firewire combo problems

My brand new 250 GB Combo drive is giving me serious problems. Connected to the Firewire port on my Shuttle PC, the drive is detected, and ends up in the Device mangaer with the fault "This device cant start". Using the drive on mu USB 2.
port i get an error in the event viewer
 
Does it require drivers? Did you load the drivers? Did you check the
manufacturer's web site for troubleshooting procedures, patches or updated
drivers?

Disks larger than 127 Gig require XP SP-1 with 48-bit LBA enabled.

They also require a motherboard that can support 48-bit LBA.
