After installation of a USB Ver. 2.0 PCI Host Card the
USB 2.0 EHCI Host controller fails to load (shows up
as "Unsupported device").

I've installed the VIA Technologies Rev 5 or later
Universal Host Companion Controller having 4 external and
one internal USB port.

The funny thing is that I have Windows ME installed on
the same computer, and when that boots up it has no
problem loading the USB 2.0 Host controller. So it cannot
be the BIOS of my motherboard.

Any suggestions?

Did you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 AND the corresponding VIA USB
drivers?

Y.

Yes, I have installed Windows XP SP1 and even the patch
described in KB822603.

Special drivers for Windows XP is not required since
Microsoft provides USB 2.0 EHCI. However, there was i
minor installation file included on the CD for installing
USB 2.0 EHCI for Windows XP SP1, and that has been run.
No change.
