Does anyone know of a USB 2.0 Host Controller driver that works with a dual processor XP system? Apparently, the current drivers by Microsoft and other vendors will not work in a dual processor system. I have an Adaptec Duo-Connect card which does suppport USB 2.0, but the dirvers will not work, and the default microsoft driver doesn't either.

I've also got the DuoConnect on my dual PIII PC.
It works fine - the MS drivers _are_ SMP
compatible - it's the Adaptec ones that aren't.
(At least not when I installed mine several months ago).

MS won't cetfify their drivers unless they've tested
succesfully on SMP systems - unlike a lot of other
goddamn software developers. No names mentioned <Ahem>
Creative, Adaptec, Symantec, Panasonic, Celemony... to
name but a few... </Ahem> A lot of companies still live in
the stone-age and think dual cpu systems are just for
servers. I've got into the practice of emailing
manufacturers before I buy anything - hard or software
to make sure it's SMP compatible coz they hardly
ever tell you in the manual let alone on the box.
Hopefully HyperThreading on the latest P4's will
drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

You have to have SP1 installed on a XP _Professional_
installation (XP Home only supports single processors).
After installing SP1 You have to manually update your
USB controllers to USB v2 (HI-Speed). SP1 brought native
USB 2 drivers to Windows XP.

1. Open Device Manager
2. Double click the USB controller
3. Select Driver tab in the properties window.
4. Click on 'Update driver'
5. Click 'Next'.
6. Click 'Finish'
