Dear all,

I am having problems with my USB device. It does not admit any new files,
even though its usage is less than 10%. It says that the disk is full, which
is obviously not true. Moreover, it's impossible to update already existing
files. Could you please help me in this matter?
Many thanks.

Can't add new files or change/delete existing ones? Sounds like the device
(whatever it is, might want to mention that) is set to read only. On some
of the USB memory "sticks" that I have -- there is a "security" switch.
Security needs to be turned off if I want to make changes to the contents
of those devices. The switch is a "feature" and is not available on all
devices of this type.

Dear Sharon F and others,

Unfortunately, there is no "security" switch on this USB memory device... I
can delete (but not change otherwise) existing files, but I can't add new
ones. It says: "cannot copy - directory or file cannot be created".

Any help will be appreciated.

Are you logged on with an account in the administrator group? If no, try it
that way. In XP Pro there is a policy setting that disables removable
media. That's it for ideas from me. Well, that and tech support for the USB
device.
