I have a Dell Latitude C640 laptop and I purchased an AC powered High Speed
2.0 USB hub - when I plugged into USB port on my laptop, I got message that I
do not have a high speed controller installed on my computer. I am really a
novice when it comes to figuring out computer problems and I truly love IT
people - do I need to buy a controller card or can it be downloaded?

Thanks for your help. (Or should I just buy a new laptop???????)

Hi!

Your C640 was made right "on the line" when computers were just beginning to
feature USB 2.0 hardware. It doesn't have USB 2.0, only 1.1.

Since this computer has two Cardbus slots, you can add a USB 2.0 card
easily. Just slide it in and it will be recognized right away. These are not
expensive, and whatever you find will be fine as long as it says that it is
a USB 2.0 Cardbus card somewhere on the box.
I truly love IT people

Always a good idea to be on good terms with your system operator. :-)

If it works and you're happy with it otherwise, why replace it?
