I purchased two 16' USB 2.0 active extension cables so I could extend a USB
port 32'. However, when I plug the extension into the computer, the Found
New Hardware Wizard fails with "An error occured during the installation of
the device." If I plug just 1 extension in, I get no errors and all is
well, but as soon as I plug the second extension into the first, I get the
error and the device becomes "Unknown device" in Device Manager. I have
verified that the cables are good by trying this on my older USB 1.1
machine, also running Win2K - everything works great. Thoughts? Thanks

If each one works separately, but bombs in serial, AND the vendor stated
that they WILL work in serial, I would call and ask them what is wrong
with their cables.

Have you tried plugging a passive 5-m cable into the end of the active
cable? That would give you 32' and still leave you within the spec range
of the max USB cable length.
