I'm using a Dell PowerEdge 2500SC with Windows 2000 Server SP4.

Whenever I plug any storage device into the USB or Firewire ports, it
starts loading drivers, then blue screens with bugcheck 0x0000000A
(IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). It will then blue screen during startup as long
as the device remains attached. Removing the device will allow the
machine to boot normally. I have verified that the storage devices work
correctly on other machines.

It would appear to be the Mass Storage driver, but I cannot be sure,
because it happens so quickly, and people get annoyed when I crash the
server during business hours, so I cannot test it much.

I've searched the KB and Google, but cannot find anything relating to this
problem. I'm guessing that the Mass Storage driver has become corrupted,
and should be replaced (off another server, perhaps?)

Any other ideas?

Hi,

Try upgrading the USB drivers that should be on board from the motherboard manufacturer website.

Do you have Easy CD Creator 5 installed by any chance?
*We have exactly the same Dell server (PowerEdge 2500SC) and hav
exactly the same problem with USB external hard drives. The syste
crashes to a blue screen every time we attempt to install the mas
storage device driver (usbstor.sys). If anyone finds a
cure, I would like to know.

No, Easy CD Creator is not installed. In fact, the only removable media drive is CD-ROM. I have updated the firmware and flashed the bios as recommended in the previous reply, but problem still exists. Chipset update is not available from Dell.

After 3 or 4 calls to Dell tech support I am told the "Server Works" motherboard chipset on the Dell PowerEdge 2500SC server cannot be updated and does not support any USB devices except keyboard and mouse. Bad answer, but it seems to be confirmed by several sources including Shubhankar's response. As an alternative a company named Ximeta makes a 160GB external HDD with an ethernet connection as well as USB. It's called a Net Disk, and we have 3 of them stacked on our network switch. They work great!

I am also experiencing the same Bugcheck 0x0000000a and a Blue Scree
when I connect my USB-IDE (USB2.0) external Seagate 120GB hard drive.
am also using a Dell system, a Dell Latitude c540/640 laptop.
I have repeatedly loaded the ousb2hub.sys and ousbehci.sys NEC PCI t
USB Enhanced Host Controller drivers.
This is very frustrating as my drive is repeatedly corrupted and has t
be reformatted every time!!!!.

Any ideas other than contacting DELL who provide useless support??
