USB 1.1 and 2.0 problems

I am currently running Windows XP, with the latest
service packs installed.

Here's my issue.

I currently purchased a Western Digital USB 1.1/2.0
external 120GB HD. I've pluged it in, and the system
does indeed detect it. Unfortnatly my computer refuses
to use the USB 2.0 Drivers. I've double checked the
motherboard and it does indeed have the USB 2.0
capability on board.

Overall, I guess my real question is, what dll files
contain the USB 2.0 drivers? Once I know this I can
tell my system to update the drivers on the USB 1.1 and
tell it to use these driver files.

PS, please pardon my spelling.

If USB 2 is installed, you will see Enhanced PCI to USB Host
Controllers. If USB 2 is installed, you will see Standard PCI....

You must update to XP SP1 for the USB 2 drivers. It is not clear if SP1
automatically updates the host controllers in all cases, based on
problem reports. One thing you might try is to remove one host
controller in Device Manager, reboot, and see if the host controller is
updated. You might also check your MB vendor and see if a separate MB
driver update is required to support SP1.
