I have a USB external hard drive. Under XP and previous OS it showed up as a
SCSI device. It is a buslink L13. I have both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports
installed. I get error message Windows encountered a problem while installing
device drivers for your USB-ATAPI4 Bridge Controller. I have downloaded
drivers from the bus link site and tried to install them in XP mode did't
help. I asked buslink they no longer support this and suggested I buy a "new
purchase a new USB 2 enclosure for a 3.5†drive." I don't understand this. I
see nothing in the bios that would solve this problem. Any help or
suggestions would be appreciated

If the manufacturers won't support their old drive arrangement then you'll
need to take their advice.

It seems to me they are suggesting you buy an "empty" external hard drive
case and move the hard disk inside their case into this newer case that
supports more modern connection methods. While it's a pain in the neck that
they won't make their old stuff work for you, this is fairly sound advice on
how to move forward from them, I have to say. Most places would tell you to
backup everything, throw their old product away and buy a brand new one at
premium price.
