Mike, how should those entries read, exactly? In other
words, should it be as you wrote it, @="http://" with the
quotes, or no quotes, or what?
Thanks, Lou

Lou,
Open Regedit to the following:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]

Right-click the entry in the right pane and select: Modify
Note: do the above *only* if needed ....

(type) http:// (no quotes)
Note: Regedit will add the quotes where needed.

Mike, now it's back with a vengence. It worked for a
while (I could type in adddresses in the address bar and
get thereth page!), but now it's back to it's old self,
not letting me. I ran AD-Aware, and double-checked the
registry entry you mentioned, and my default prefix looks
fine. Any more ideas? Sounds like the problem is rapidly
reproducing. :(

Fixed it perfectly. Thanks again for your help, Mike. You
have no idea how far and wide {including the internet,
programmers, other IT managers...you name it) I sought
help on this problem, but to no avail. I almost switched
everyone from IE Explorer to Netscape at work! (I'm an
IT Manager). You really helped me out of a bad situation,
because it was starting to spread rapidly. If I were you,
I'd start some sort of incident-based consulting
business. You really know you're stuff. I hope I can
contact you if I run into another perplexing problem.
Thanks again. -Lou

Unzip "cwshredder.zip" and run the included "CWShredder.exe"
Then follow up with either Ad-Aware or SpyBot, then HijackThis
