I recently updated my website and now find that if I use the shortcut to the
page on my hardrive it takes me to the correct page (this one has an
index.htm extension).
However if I type in just the url alone (without the index.htm extension) it
takes me to the old home page before I updated the website. I have checked
the home page on the remote server in the 'Publish' window & this displays
the correct page & there are no duplicates.
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it ?

How are you uploading content to your site, via FP's http Publishing mode or FP's Selective
Publishing or FTP?

If FP, then FP will rename the home page the name required by your web host.

Thanks for the reply Thomas. I uploaded the site again & it worked, so your
advice solved the problem.
Thx.
