URL in email didn't show up as a hyperlink

I'm using XP Home, and my email program is OE 6 SP1.

A relative sent me an email with a web address typed in the body of
the message. However, the URL was not converted into a hyperlink. Any
ideas why?

Duh. I already know how to do that. But I was curious to know why
the URL wasn't converted into a hyperlink. Duh.
